Falcon Storage Engine Alpha Release Next Week

News of the Falcon storage engine’s release leaked earlier than database maker MySQL AB had hoped. The Falcon storage engine is targeted towards high performance web servers and should be available for download as alpha next week. “The alpha release will be used to refine the storage engine’s features and performance” VP of community relations Kaj Arno said. The Falcon storage engine is built to run with MySQL 5.1 existing data will need to be migrated however. The new engine comes after competitor Oracle acquired InnoDB, one of the more popular MySQL storage engines, and support for a lesser used storage engine BerkeleyDB was dropped.

Dejal Simon update to monitor MySQL

Dejal Simon, a MacOS system monitoring tool, has released an update version 2.2 which adds MySQL and Samba file sharing service support to its list of service monitors. The software can alert the administrator about errors when connecting to local or remote ports, tcp services such as HTTP, DNS, Samba and MySQL. Alerts can be sent via email, visual html reports or audio.
